A hand-coloured satirical engraving by James Gillray (British, 1756-1815), titled ‘A MARCH to the BANK, Vide The Strand, Fleet Street, Cheapside. Morning & Evening, ‘ published June 2nd, 1787 by H. Brookes. The print depicts a chaotic and exaggerated multitude of soldiers and civilians caught in a stampede or riot in a public thoroughfare. Rendered in ink on paper with vibrant watercolour hand-colouring, characteristic of British caricature of the late 18th century. Presented within a simple, possibly gilded, wooden frame with an aged mat.
