Description

A trio of graduated relief-moulded earthenware jugs, likely ironstone, featuring a design influenced by the Aesthetic Movement. Each jug has a bulbous body, a flared rim with a pinched spout, and a C-scroll handle modelled as bamboo. The decoration consists of a central relief-moulded panel on both sides depicting a crane or heron amongst reeds, framed by a raised geometric border. The panel is flanked by relief-moulded bamboo stalks and foliage. The decoration is finished with polychrome glazes in green and ochre against a cream-white stippled ground, with pink lines to the rims and bases. The undersides of the bases bear an impressed Victorian diamond registration mark, which includes the Roman numeral IV for ceramics and the letters Rd. The remaining registration codes are obscured by the glaze and not clearly legible. Tallest 19cm
