Description

After Edgar Degas (French, 1834-1917), a lithographic reproduction titled Study of a Horse with Figures, c. 1861. The composition features a detailed central study of a horse in profile facing left, with faint graphite sketches of another horse’s head and human figures in the background. The upper left area contains green chalk or pastel highlights. The work is presented on toned paper with deckled edges. The image includes several markings: a red oval stamp in the lower-left corner reading ATELIER ED. DEGAS; a red square stamp with the letters M.N; a small circular stamp containing ML; and a facsimile signature in reddish-brown pigment reading Degas in the lower right. The surrounding mount is printed with the artist’s name to the left and the work’s title and date to the right. The piece is housed in a gilt-finished moulded frame under glass with a plain brown backing board secured by metal clips. 46×36.5cm
