Description
A trio of framed bird-themed artworks. Two are limited edition colour prints after Archibald Thorburn (Scottish, 1860-1935), identified as Plate 8 and Plate 67 from his celebrated work British Birds. Plate 8 depicts several species of warblers in tall grass, including Savi’s Warbler and Aquatic Warbler. Plate 67 features various wading birds, including Wood Sandpiper, Bartram’s Sandpiper, and a ruff. Both prints bear printed species identifications and plate numbers. Verso labels specify that these prints are from the 1918 edition, which was limited to 500 copies. These plates are presented in gilt-edged wooden frames with double-lined mounts and bear gallery labels for The Picture Palace, Crystal Palace, London. The third artwork is a vertical study of a long-tailed tit perched on dried vegetation, executed in pencil and watercolour on paper. This piece is housed in a plain wooden frame with a tan mount and is unsigned. Largest 39x46cm
