Lot 32:
Description
A trio of Victorian-era cylindrical salt-glazed stoneware storage jars of graduated sizes. One jar features an impressed mark on the shoulder for BARNES & CO, a prominent London-based manufacturer of preserves and condiments during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The remaining two jars are similar in style but appear to be unmarked. Each jar is designed with a wide mouth and a rolled or stepped rim. They exhibit a classic two-tone finish, with a honey-brown glaze to the upper section and a buff-coloured lower body. The bases are unglazed and flat. These utilitarian vessels were a staple of British domestic food storage for products such as jams, pickles, and condiments. Tallest 25cm
