Description
This set of four framed maritime prints features the complete text of the poem The Laws of the Navy by Rear-Admiral Ronald Arthur Hopwood (1868–1949). Each print corresponds to a numbered page of the poem, from 1 to 4, as indicated at the bottom right corner of the paper. The text is illustrated with various black-and-white nautical line drawings depicting Royal Navy vessels, dockyard scenes, and naval figures. The first print is titled The Laws of the Navy in decorative blackletter font and includes a printed dedication to the author’s comrades in the Service. The prints are executed on cream-coloured paper and are set within blue card mounts. They are housed in matching black wooden frames with a gilt-effect inner slip. A framer’s label on the reverse identifies the work as having been framed by The Leading Edge in Bridgend, Wales. All 50x38cm. 1 AF glass damaged
