Description
A 23-piece Japanese porcelain tea and coffee service produced for the export market by Manna China, likely dating to the mid-20th century. The set comprises one tall lidded pot, one double-handled lidded sugar bowl, one cream jug, ten teacups, and ten matching saucers. Each piece is decorated with hand-painted polychrome enamels featuring a central motif of a seated female figure in traditional dress, surrounded by red floral sprays and stylised green foliage. The decoration includes golden panels with black scrollwork known as a karakusa pattern and a continuous red Greek key border around the rims and necks. The handles, spouts, and pointed finials are finished with heavy gilding. The underside of the pieces bears a red printed backstamp featuring the kanji character for pine (松) above the cursive word Manna, an oil lamp graphic containing the word CHINA, and the words MADE IN JAPAN.
