Lot 5:
Description
An antique brass single-draw naval-style telescope produced by the London firm H. Hughes. The instrument is of all-brass construction with a single extending draw tube. The draw tube is clearly engraved with the maker’s details: H. Hughes., 120 Fenchurch St. London., and the designation Impd Day or Night. The term Impd serves as an abbreviation for Improved, a period marketing designation for telescopes designed with a larger objective lens to provide better visibility in low-light conditions. The telescope is equipped with its objective lens and an eyepiece featuring a functional sliding brass dust cover. The instrument is a single-draw model, consisting of a main barrel and a single telescopic section to reach focus.
