Lot 38:
Description
A pair of gouache oil on board paintings by the French artist Eugene Galien-Laloue, depicting bustling Parisian street scenes in his signature Belle Epoque style. The first work, titled Flower Sellers on the verso label, portrays a crowded public square centred around a large monument, with figures gathered near vibrant floral displays in the foreground. The second work, titled By the Seine on its verso label, depicts a riverside quay featuring a green newsstand and the distinctive medieval towers of the Conciergerie in the background. Both works are executed with fine detail, utilising gouache and bodycolour to create a lively sense of atmosphere and movement. Each painting is signed E. Galien-Laloue in the lower left corner. The pieces are housed in matching dark wood frames with narrow gilt-finished inner slips. Modern labels on the reverse of the frames provide the titles and the artist’s dates. Both 48x38cm
